Good Boy (Short Film)
My Role: Art Director
Good Boy is a short film co-directed by Yvette Sin and Nikita Zhang, produced by John Tan. In this short film, I served as an Art Director who collaborated closely with the production team to maintain aesthetic consistency and narrative coherence througout the film. This films wins Audience Award 2024 in NFFTY Film Festival.
Pre-Production Planning
My initial tasks included detailed discussions with the director and cinematographer to understand their vision and translate it into a tangible aesthetic. We agreed on a color scheme that would best reflect the film's mood and themes. This stage also involved planning the decor style for various scenes, ensuring that every visual element supported the story's tone.
Props Preparation
I compiled a comprehensive list of props needed for the film. Each prop was carefully selected to enhance the film’s visual storytelling. I labeled and categorized the props according to the shooting schedule, ensuring everything was easily accessible and correctly placed for each scene.
On-Set Responsibilities
During filming, I was responsible for setting up each scene according to our pre-determined decor style and color scheme. This included arranging furniture, placing props, and ensuring that each scene visually aligned with the overall aesthetic.
Ensuring Continuity
One of my critical roles on set was to maintain scene continuity. I meticulously tracked the placement of props and set pieces between takes to ensure visual consistency throughout the film. This attention to detail was essential in preserving the immersive experience for the audience.
Outcome
The result was a visually cohesive short film that effectively communicated its story through carefully curated settings and props. My role as Art Director contributed significantly to the film's aesthetic success, supporting the narrative and enhancing the audience's engagement.
